Snowmobile Trails Near Grand Junction, Colorado
Grand Mesa's National Forest Trails
The vast Grand Mesa is a premier destination for snowmobilers, located just a short 30-minute drive from Grand Junction. Its high elevation fresh powder throughout the winter season, featuring 800 square miles of groomed trails that traverse beautiful forests and open meadows, offering breathtaking mountain views.
The most popular grand snowmobiling trail is the Sunlight to Powder Trail, also known as "The SP Trail." This well-maintained trail spans 123 miles from the Sunlight Ski Area to the Powderhorn Ski Area, making it one of the longest snowmobile trails in the contiguous United States.
Uncompahgre National Forest Trails
With miles of groomed and ungroomed trails, this 1 million-acre area is perfect for day trips from Grand Junction. Located just 30 minutes south on Hwy 141 towards Gateway, Colorado, it offers wide-open spaces and scenic climbs suitable for all rider experience levels.
White River National Forest Trails
Explore an extensive trail system within the 2.3 million acres of White River National Forest. This snowmobiler's paradise features a mix of meadows, mountains, and wooded areas. If you’re looking to adventure through the sprawling Flattops snowmobile trail system covering this area, head to the West Elk Trailhead on Forest Road 245, where a large parking lot is available. Vail Pass
With 119 miles of winter trails and spectacular views of surrounding mountains, the Vail Pass Winter Recreation Area is one of the most popular winter recreation areas in the country. From Mango's Mountain Grill in historic Red Cliff to the top of Vail Pass, Colorado, you can snowmobile in one day. A day or season pass is required to enter this area. As long as snow conditions permit, it is open from approximately November through May
